Description

This three-hour workshop is designed to give educators an understanding of what STEM education is all about, and how STEM lessons using Excel 2016 can deepen student understanding of a variety of concepts. Educators will learn why physical devices are powerful teaching tools, how Project Córdoba and Excel 2016 support STEM projects, and what resources are available to design content-based STEM lessons.  It is aimed at educators for whom STEM education is relatively new and who are looking to implement lessons in their classroom right away. This training will explore aka.ms/hackingSTEM resources through hands-on activities that will introduce educators to the principles of STEM lessons and give educators time to consider integrating a project into their classrooms.

Objectives

·       Understand the basic principles of

o   STEM lessons and

o   physical devices in the digital world

·       Learn how to find STEM lessons

·       Begin to plan a STEM lesson using available resources

Target Audience

The primary audience for this session is teachers (6-12), empowering educators teaching in a variety of settings and content areas.  With the growing expectation for integrating computer science education into classes, teachers of all content areas will benefit from this course.  That said, knowing your audience will likely be critical for successful application of the topics.
